Czech studio Šépka Architekti has designed Wardrobe House, a rectangular wooden dwelling in Prague whose massing takes cues from a freestanding wardrobe.

The home stands in the city's Ořechovka district and is raised on legs, reinforcing the comparison with a piece of furniture set above the ground. Its vertical proportions give the building a notably narrow and towering presence.

One side of the structure can be opened through giant shutters that close across the facade. The moving elements allow the exterior to shift between a sealed timber volume and a more open domestic frontage.

According to Dezeen's report on Wardrobe House, the project translates an everyday object into a prefabricated residential form, placing construction and architectural expression at the centre of the design.
