Australian design studio Gibson Karlo has introduced a metal edition of the Twill chair for furniture brand Design By Them. The new version translates the chair’s recognisable form into an all-metal construction.

Designers Sarah Gibson and Nicholas Karlovasitis originally conceived Twill as a timber chair. Its shape drew on the nostalgic visual quality of a newly opened pack of plasticine, giving the seating design an intentionally moulded and approachable appearance.

The metal iteration retains that plasticine-like aesthetic while changing the material expression of the piece. Rather than treating metal as a purely industrial finish, the design continues to foreground the chair’s rounded, sculptural profile.

For architects and interior specifiers, the project illustrates how a familiar furniture form can be adapted across materials without abandoning its underlying design language. The chair was presented in Dezeen Showroom’s coverage of the Metal Twill chair.
